PEAK is a unique experiential outdoor program in which students fulfill Grade 10 academic credits for English First Peoples 10, Science 10, Career Education 10, and Physical and Health Education 10. The four required classes will fulfill graduation requirements.
The PEAK program is focused on bolstering student academics, personal growth, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging for all participants through collaborative learning experiences, both inside and outside the classroom. Students connect directly with their environment through place-based learning activities which enable them to integrate their learning into the wider world and to make personal and cross-curricular connections. The physical and social environment that is created in the PEAK program supports the development of the Core Competencies – intellectual, personal, and social & emotional proficiencies that all students need to develop in order to become collaborative and critically thinking life-long learners.
PEAK will run using a cohort model of 75 students in semester 2. This allows for the 4 required classes to be taken at the same time. This structure ensures students will not miss valuable class time in other subjects. The program will include an introduction to a variety of outdoor activities which could include snowshoeing, hiking, and rock climbing among other possibilities. PEAK will culminate in a year end overnight trip.
